The best way to learn is through visual communication. Being able to visually see something happen in front of you, or to look at a still image, is the best way to have it imprint in your brain. For this to be successful, there needs to be memorable images and colors.
Color gives you an idea what kind of emotion something has. For example, if there is the color yellow, a lot people associate that with happiness. Images can do a lot of the same, but it also helps give you a background of the situation. There can be an image that stands for something that is already understood, or there can be an example that shows you whatever that image is advertising, is working towards a goal.
A great example of an image that stands for something would be the Nike logo. This logo is widely known as the “Nike swoosh.” The “swoosh” is a basic image, but it means a lot to so many. Within recent memory, this logo has stood for resistance, working hard, going against the odds, and fighting for what is right. Additionally, Nike in Greek mythology, is the Goddess of Victory, which having the logo based on that shows what the company, and the people wearing their products are going for.
Now, we can look at an image that advertises the product within it’s own logo. Beats by Dre has what seems like a very simple logo, but it is not just that. The logo is a simple “b” in a unique font, enclosed within a circle. This comes off as very simple, until you realize that the image actually represents someone wearing a pair of Beats headphones. If you look at the logo, it would be like looking at the side profile of someone wearing the headphones. The Beats by Dre logo is very detailed and goes unnoticed by many people, while it subliminally has meaning.
There is one more noticeable sports brand logo you could look at that has deeper meaning. This company is Adidas. Once again, their logo looks like it is very basic. There are three lines that gradually get bigger as you go from left to right. These are set up to look like a mountain. Mountains are often used as a metaphor for overcoming obstacles, and this is exactly what Adidas wants to portray. The popular sports apparel and equipment brand is trying to let you know that their image is going to help you get past whatever challenge or objective you have. This sets a strong mindset to their brand, and it is fitting with what they are trying to accomplish.
Images and logos are helpful with trying to give meaning to what a company is trying to put out there. There are so many well known logos in the world, and often you can see one of these logos and know exactly what company it belongs to. Logos visualize everything, and typically, help build a brand.
